Yankee Candle to close 20 stores in North America. What about in Pembroke Pines?

Pembroke Pines, you’ll want to stock up on your three-wick favorites while you can.
Chain retailer Yankee Candle will be closing 20 stores in the United States and Canada starting in January, according to parent company Newell Brands.
The global consumer goods giant — which owns brands such as Sharpie, Paper Mate and Elmer’s — announced the shutdown in a statement released Dec. 1, adding that the decision is part of a larger productivity plan “designed to strengthen the company’s competitiveness, deliver greater value for consumers and drive long-term value creation.”
Over 900 employees, of which approximately 10% are professional and clerical workers, will also be cut from Newell Brand’s workforce, a move the company says was to “redirect resources to the highest-value activities” and facilitated by automation, digitization and artificial intelligence.
“We’ve made meaningful progress executing our strategy and strengthening Newell Brands, but there is more work to do,” president and CEO Chris Peterson said in the statement. “This productivity plan is about taking the next, disciplined step to enhance efficiency, sharpen our strategic focus, and deliver stronger, more consistent performance. Ultimately, our goal is to deliver greater value for consumers and create sustained long-term value for our shareholders.”
A list of which 20 stores will be closing, which represent 1% of brand sales, has not been made public by Yankee Candle or its parent company as of Dec. 22.
The candle retailer’s Pembroke Pines location — 317 SW 145th Terrace at the Pembroke Gardens shopping center — did not respond to the Pembroke Pines News’ request for comment on Tuesday, Dec. 22. However, a flyer being distributed to customers says the store is closing, though it didn’t have the date the store would close.
A Plantation store located at 8000 W. Broward Blvd. is its nearest counterpart.
