Maker of viral figurine dolls opens store at Pembroke Lakes Mall to fanfare
Blind boxes, beware: Pop Mart at Pembroke Lakes Mall is up and running after months of anticipation.
The China-based toy retailer — popular for selling mystery packages containing a surprise collectible figurine — is open to customers, the Broward shopping center shared in a June 17 Instagram post.
“Whether you’re a longtime collector or discovering the magic for the first time, there’s something waiting for everyone,” reads the Pembroke Lakes Mall announcement.
News of the toy store’s upcoming arrival first came out in October, when the shopping center posted a photo of its storefront displaying a “Coming Soon” poster on Instagram.
Broward collectors were quick to flood the post’s comment section with excitement and demands for an opening date.
Doors were originally slated to open in February, the mall shared, but fans began clamoring for answers after February came and went.
An early June Instagram post from Pop Mart’s corporate team announcing new stores nationwide confirmed the southwest Broward store would soon.
Located inside Suite 854 of the mall — between boutique Edge and Sunglass Hut — the Pembroke Pines location marks Pop Mart’s first brick-and-mortar in South Florida.
About Pop Mart
Pop Mart got its start as a Beijing variety store in 2010, Forbes reported, but has shot to fame in the past decade thanks to the rising popularity of “blind boxes.”
Labubus — small, plush monsters with toothy grins — have become the brand’s most recognizable item, helping generate $5.4 billion in revenue for Pop Mart in 2025, Reuters reported in March.
The blind-box figurine has been spotted dangling on the purses of pop stars Rihanna and Dua Lipa, and has seen six-figure sales, such as the $170,000 price tag for a 4-foot mint green Labubu purchased at a Beijing auction in June.
Other viral Pop Mart toys include the cherub-like CryBaby, edgy Skullpanda and pouting Molly dolls.
Pop Mart’s Pembroke Lakes shop joins its Orlando, Altamonte Springs and suburban Tampa locations as permanent Florida storefronts.
A Brickell FIFA pop-up and vending-machine-like “robo shops” in Sweetwater’s Dolphin Mall and Hialeah’s Westland Mall make up the rest of the brand’s South Florida presence.
