Family-friendly spooky movie: ‘Hotel Transylvania’

Fang-tastic fun is guaranteed at Pembroke Pines/Walter C. Young Resource Center’s screening of “Hotel Transylvania.” All ages are welcome to the Monday, Oct. 20, movie night from 6-7:30 p.m., but kids in attendance are promised a take-and-make craft kit. Admission is only needed for kids and is free with registration.

Taste of the Gardens

Unique flavors headline this culinary experience. Taste of the Gardens will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Pembroke Gardens. Sample food and drinks from 13 participating restaurants and support four local non-profits when you purchase a “taste card” from this event sponsored by the Miramar Pembroke Pines Regional Chamber of Commerce. Admission is $15.

Modern woman business summit

Looking to meet likeminded professionals? Attend the “S.H.E Means Business” edition of this convention by the chambers of commerce of Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Pembroke Park, West Park and Weston on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. The event, held at Pembroke Lakes Country Club, features several speakers, empowering panels and interactive experiences “to help women lead with strength and power,” according to its listing. Admission ranges from $55-$75.

Cali Coffee spooky house

Sips and scares come together in this festive event by Florida-based Cali Coffee on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 5-8 p.m. The chain’s Pembroke Pines store, located at 18420 Pines Blvd, wil transform into a kid-friendly spooky house and offer raffles, free candy, stickers, Cali Coffee merchandise and a 25% discount on drinks. Children are encouraged to dress up. Admission is free and open to the public.

Miles & Pints with Pines Running Co.

Pines Running Co. invites runners of all levels to hit the pavement — and crush a couple of beers — on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 7-9 p.m. The run club will meet at The Pub to kick off the night with a 2-mile trot before returning to the Irish bar for an extended happy hour and beer bucket specials. Admission is free with registration.

Meet the guitar

Channel your inner musician at the Pembroke Pines/Walter C. Young Resource Center’s guitar workshop Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6-7 p.m. This event is open to learners of all levels and will teach on guitar parts and types, pointers for purchasing your own, and an introductory lesson on how to play the instrument. Owning a guitar isn’t mandatory to participate, but those with their own six-string are encouraged to bring it. Admission is free and open to the public.

Beats and Bites

City Hall invites you to its inaugural Beats & Bites, a new monthly concert series that starts Thursday, Oct. 23, from 7-9 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge City Center. Live music from the band Torres Collective and classic arcade games will tie in the event’s Throwback Thursday 1990s theme. A lineup of food trucks and vendors will keep you fed so you can dance on. Admission is free and open to the public.
