The two men allegedly behind an early-February killing of a Pembroke Pines man are behind bars in Texas, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Jayden DeJesus, a 19-year-old from Miami, and Trevon Quinones, 19, from Forney, Texas, are in a Kaufman County jail for the alleged murder of Hunter Howell, 22, Broward deputies said in a Feb. 12 statement.

Officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked at the West Broward Boat Ramp, 3451 N. U.S. 27, around 8:41 a.m. on Feb. 1, BSO said.

Police found Howell dead inside the vehicle when they arrived, with the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office determining his death, per BSO’s statement.

Detectives — who say Howell was killed Saturday, Jan. 31 — had the two men arrested following a Feb. 11 traffic stop in Kaufman County with the help of Kaufman deputies, BSO’s Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response and the U.S. Marshal’s Office in Dallas, with additional investigative help from City of Miami Police.

DeJesus and Quinones are being held at Kaufman County Jail with no bond, jail records show.

Both will be extradited to Broward County, deputies said, to face charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Howell was known as someone who “lived with a generous heart and a kind spirit that touched everyone he met,” and “would literally give the shirt off his back” to those in need, reads a GoFundMe fundraiser organized to cover funeral costs.

“We want to give Hunter the proper, dignified service he deserves — a final ‘thank you’ for the joy and laughter he brought into our lives.”
