The Pembroke Pines Police Department has welcomed a new member to the team — Comfort K9 Jellybean, the department’s first therapy dog.

The 10-week-old goldendoodle, acquired through the First Responders Pack Foundation, is currently undergoing specialized training with her handler, PSA Jason Dail, the department announced on Monday, Oct. 6.

Jellybean’s primary task is to provide emotional support to community members and first responders during times of stress, trauma or crisis.

The First Responders Pack Foundation, a non-profit organization, works to improve mental health among first responders by funding therapy dogs for police departments, fire stations and other agencies.

The PPPD says Jellybean will make her rounds visiting schools, senior centers and community events, and may also be called to provide comfort at scenes where a calming presence is needed.

You can follow her work and progress on Instagram at @jellybean_thetherapydog.
