New Pembroke Pines News site launches to deliver free, community-focused stories
Pembroke Pines residents now have a dedicated source for local news with the launch of a new community-focused website designed to inform, connect and empower citizens.
Welcome to the Pembroke Pines News.
Powered by the Miami Herald, this new website will focus on telling the stories that matter most to the city and its residents while providing solutions-oriented journalism that helps residents engage in their community.
And, unlike many news outlets, all of this Pembroke Pines community coverage will be free to read, ensuring that anyone in the community has access to vital information without a paywall.
In an era when many local outlets have closed or scaled back, this new site aims to fill the gap with reporting dedicated solely to Pembroke Pines.
We will spotlight local government decisions, new business openings, schools, events and the people who make Pembroke Pines unique. Readers also will find reporting that looks beyond problems to explore solutions and ideas that could improve everyday life.
In addition to breaking news and daily newsletter updates, this new venture will spotlight the people and organizations working to solve problems and improve life in the city.
Anchoring our coverage of Pembroke Pines will be reporters Carla Mendez and Isabel Rivera. Mendez recently completed an internship at WLRN News, South Florida’s NPR affiliate, and Rivera spent the summer as a Miami Herald intern. Both are FIU graduates.
The Pembroke Pines site is part of a broader effort by the Miami Herald to strengthen local journalism across three Broward County communities, the others being Coral Springs and Miramar.
We invite the community to share tips and story ideas at editor@pembrokepinesflnews.com, as well as cmendez@pembrokepinesflnews.com and irivera@pembrokepinesflnews.com. We want residents to share feedback and become part of the conversation about the city’s future.
We are here to tell the stories that matter in Pembroke Pines and to make sure everyone has access to them — for free. Good information builds stronger communities, and that’s what we are here to deliver. We hope you will join us along the way.
