From now until Oct. 15, adoption fees at Broward County Animal Care will be waived — meaning you can take your new, spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped furry friend home at almost no cost.

It’s part of a national campaign funded by the Bissell Pets Foundation. The initiative covers all of the shelter’s adoption fees, meaning new pet parents only have to pay the animal’s $25 license fee in Broward County.

On Oct. 1, the first day of the campaign, eight cats and two dogs from Broward County Animal Care went home with their new families — but many more are still looking for their forever homes.

Hundreds of dogs and cats are available, with a range of breeds, ages, sizes and personalities.

“Besides just regular housecats, we also have working cats available for adoption,” Animal Care Director Doug Brightwell said in an Oct. 3 interview. “If you need an outdoor cat for whatever reason, we also have them for adoption as well.”

Broward County Animal Care, located at 2400 SW 42nd St. in Fort Lauderdale, is open daily for adoptions from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
