A weekend in the great outdoors lies ahead in Pembroke Pines.
For residents looking to earn a new boating license to those wanting to try a new sport, several activity-focused events are happening across the city this weekend.
Here’s what’s happening from Friday, May 15, through Sunday, May 17:
What’s Your Stress Type?
Kick off your weekend with a workshop tailored to helping you decompress on Friday at Nutrition Smart, 10980 Pines Blvd.
From 3 to 4 p.m., Dan Chapman, owner of Redd Remedies suplements and Sunrise Health Foods, will deliver a wellness lecture on discovering your “stress type,” how stress affects the body and mind, and how to manage and reduce stress in your daily life.
Post-talk, all attendees can enjoy free samples and $10 off any Nutrition Smart purchase of $50 or more.
Spots are limited, and admission is free with registration.
Haitian Flag Fest
Celebrate Haitian Flag Day on Friday with a Konpa-studded festival at Douce Lounge from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
The night starts with a dance class to the Haitian méringue genre from 8 to 10 p.m. led by instructors Dèzod, Carma, Sauveur and Didine Bazile. That’s followed by live music performances from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Tickets range from $28.49 to $44.99 and feature several party and class packages to choose from.
National Kids to Parks Day
In collaboration with National Park Trust, the city is hosting National Kids to Parks Day with a full day of activities from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The morning portion will take place at the Pembroke Lakes Tennis Center, with free tennis activities for the family. The clinics are scheduled to conclude at noon.
In the afternoon (noon to 6 p.m.), free swimming will be held at three locations across the city: TownGate Pool (901 NW 155th Ave.) Price Park Pool (901 NW 208th Ave.) and Pembroke Lakes Pool (10500 Taft St.).

Boat America Class
Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue is hosting a one-day “Boat America” safety course for novices and those who need to brush up on their skills from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The class will be taught by Coast Guard instructors at the Pembroke Pines Fire Training Facility, located at 1101 SW 208th Ave.
There is a $25 cost per person. Participants will receive a Florida State Boater ID Card and all materials and workbooks for the course are included.

CommUNITY 250 Years in the Making Tapestry Workshop
Celebrate the United States’ 250th anniversary of independence by leaving your mark on history.
The Southwest Regional Library will host a workshop from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday during which residents can add to a large-scale community tapestry and stitch “together fabric, stories, and shared creativity.”
The artwork will be pieced together by South Florida artist Magda Love and installed at City Hall.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Rise & Run
Hit the pavement early alongside Pines Running Co. for a sweat start to your Saturday.
Runners will meet at Haraz Coffee House at 7 a.m. for a 1-5 mile trot that welcomes all paces — run, sprint or jog.
After you get your steps in, enjoy exclusive discounts on refreshments and food while mingling with other run club participants.
Admission is free with registration and opent to the public.
Flea Market & Bazaar
Over 100 vendors will sell their pre-loved treasures and artisan goods at the Southwest Focal Point Community Center on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What will be up for grabs? Vinyl records, jewelry, secondhand clothes, vintage toys and more.

Wellness Sunday x Nike Series
Back for another “wellness Sunday” experience, Nike at Pembroke Gardens, located at 627 SW 145th Terrace, will host a social fitness-focused event at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.
Socacize, a high-energy dance program rooted in Caribbean and African dance styles, will lead the workout session.
Tickets cost $5 (before fees) and include exclusive discounts from Nike.
A Derby Soiree
Cooper’s Hawk presents its own “Run for the Roses” Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
The restaurant will host a Kentucky Derby-themed wine pairing dinner outfitted with dishes including black pepper cheddar biscuits, bacon-wrapped shrimp, grilled heirloom pork ribeye and a Derby bourbon ball cake.
The night’s signature wine will be Les Petites, described as “a gorgeous inky black wine with velvety dark fruit.” Dinner will be served at a communal table to foster community building.
Admission is $79 for the 21-and-over event. Reservations close 48 hours before the dinner.
