Put down those iPads and get outdoors, Pembroke Pines.
In alliance with National Park Trust, the city is hosting National Kids to Parks Day on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The morning portion of the event will take place at the Pembroke Lakes Tennis Center, located at 10500 Taft St., with free tennis activities for the whole family. The tennis clinics are set to conclude at noon.
For the remainder of the afternoon, free swimming will be held at three locations across the city: Towngate Park, Rose Price Park and Pembroke Lakes Pool.
National Park Trust is a nonprofit focused on protecting parkland and connecting people to the outdoors.
In addition to the City of Pembroke Pines, the City of Plantation is also hosting its own event at Deicke Park.
Kids to Parks Day is a nationwide day of outdoor play organized by NPT.
Now in its 16th year, the event is always hosted on the third Saturday of May.
“The day connects kids and families with their local, state and national parks and public lands through hundreds of park events that promote discovery and exploration in the great outdoors,” according to the trust.
