A brief reprieve from the heat has arrived with an unusually strong Arctic cold front, bringing in some of the coldest air of the season and bringing out our prestine winter collections.

However cold the winds may blow, don’t let that stop you from exploring what this weekend has to offer in Pembroke Pines.

Once again, an arts-forward lineup takes center stage as the city opens its doors to creativity and community.

Here is the rundown of the events happening Friday, Jan. 31, through Sunday, Feb. 1.

‘Art is Forever’ open house, art sale

To close the first month of the year, Studio 18 Art Complex will host “Art is Forever,” a free open house and art sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The event will feature local artists and one-of-a-kind pieces starting at $20. No registration is required and light refreshments will be provided.

Visit newest exhibitions at ‘The Frank’

For those seeking to keep the weekend inspired by art, the Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery, located at 601 City Center Way, opened two new art exhibitions on Thursday.

The first is Edison Peñafiel’s, “Me pongo el sol al hombro y el mundo es amarillo” (I put the sun on my shoulders and the world turns yellow), which invites viewers to move through seven monumental curtains suspended at the center of the gallery.

Peñafiel’s portfolio has centered on themes of migration, power and history.

The second is Adrian Sosa’s, “Habitar una Nube” (To Inhabit a Cloud), which is also an immerse installation that invites its viewer “to perceive the slow time of the field and the sudden violence of interruption,” according to the gallery’s social media post.

Both exhibitions will be on display until April 11.

Jamaica Brew Literary & Film Festival

In its third year of celebrating Caribbean coffee culture, movie aficionados and writers, the Jamaica Brew Literary & Film Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Southwest Regional Library.

Twelve writers will share their works, including Kingston-born author, actress and media personality Sharon Gordon, whose children’s audiobook “Sheribaby” is under Grammy consideration.

A two-hour short film showcase caps the event with six films slated for viewing and features a special tribute to the late Jimmy Cliff, a prolific ska and reggae musician who died in November from seizure-induced pneumonia.

Admission to the family-friendly event is free but requires registration. Tickets can secured here.

Macy’s Galentine’s party

To prepare for Valentine’s Day, Macy’s, located at 11605 Pines Blvd., is hosting a “Galentine’s Glow & Go Beauty” event at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Tailored as a day for the girls, the free event promises beauty tips, makeovers and special discounts for guests.

Registration is required and tickets can be secured here.

Royal Hair & Fashion Show

The Royal Hair & Fashion show is taking over West Broward High School, located at 500 NW 209th Ave., from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

The event will feature hair and fashion designs created by local stylists, with looks ranging from evening wear to more experimental styles.

Tickets start at $55 and can be purchased here.
