‘The First Blade of Sweetgrass’ storytime
Broward County Library has launched its new “One Book One Broward” initiative, running through Feb. 28, with a nature-focused theme.
Families can join a local librarian at the South Regional/Broward College Library from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“The First Blade of Sweetgrass,“ written by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey, is about a young girl going to the marshes with her grandmother to learn the traditional art of harvesting sweetgrass for basketmaking.

Cultural Rendezvous
The Broward Cultural Division’s Public Art & Design Program continues its Cultural Rendezvous Series with its third meetup of the season.
Curated by Sophie Blachet, this six-part series alternates between casual networking gatherings and expert-led conversations at arts venues across Broward.
Coffee and conversation will be served from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Studio 18 Art Complex, 1101 Poinciana Drive.
Beats & Bites
Pembroke Pines is kicking off the new year with a night of free live entertainment as its Beats & Bites concert series returns from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Charles F. Dodge City Center quad, 601 City Center Way.
This month’s installment, themed “Journey Through the Decades,” will feature a mix of hits spanning across multiple musical eras.
According to city communications specialist Zachary Schieren, the band Torres Collective will headline the event. The band also performed at the concert series’ inaugural event on Oct. 23.
Auditions for ‘Broadway Bound’
Aspiring performers waiting for to bask in the spotlight may finally have the chance to as The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts hosts its first of two auditions for its upcoming spring production of “Broadway Bound” by Neil Simon.
Auditions will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, with arrivals accepted until 1:30 p.m.
