Auditions announced for Pembroke Pines production of ‘Broadway Bound’
Pembroke Pines actors hoping to take the stage this spring will soon have two chances to get involved with their local theater.
The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts is holding auditions for its upcoming spring production of “Broadway Bound” by Neil Simon.
Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with arrivals accepted until 1:30 p.m., and Monday, Jan. 19, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with arrivals accepted until 9 p.m.
“Broadway Bound” is a semi-autobiographical play and the third installment of his “Brighton Beach” trilogy. Set in post-World War II New York, the play follows the Jerome family as brothers Eugene and Stanley attempt to break into the world of show business as comedy writers while coping with their parents’ breakup.
The show explores themes of family dysfunctions, identity and the pursuit of the American dream, with a total runtime of about two hours.
Actors intrested in auditioning must email their headshot and resume to jerrykjensen@msn.com and wendymarrero@outlook.com prior to the two dates.
Details regarding the audition will be e-mailed once the submissions are received.
The production is casting six roles: Eugene Jerome, the show’s narrator, his older brother Stanley, their parents Kate and Jack Jerome, their grandfather Ben Epstein, and Kate’s sister Blanche Morton.
Rehearsals are scheduled to run from Feb. 16 through March 14, with performances scheduled for two weekends from March 20-29.
Non-equity actors will receive a small stipend.
