‘Southern Slow Down’ campaign underway on Pembroke Pines roads. What to know
Pembroke Pines drivers with a heavy foot may want to ease off the gas this week as police step up enforcement as part of a new traffic enforcement initiative.
Pembroke Pines police announced Thursday, July 16, that officers will participate in “Southern Slow Down,” a week-long operation meant to stop “unsafe speed-related driving on our roads,” the department said in an Instagram post.
Officials say traffic concerns are among the most common complaints they receive from residents.
As a result, the department continues to utilize traffic enforcement operations aimed at curbing speeding and other common traffic violations.
The last city-wide traffic operation the department conducted in April resulted in five arrests as well as hundreds of citations and warnings.
Officers issued citations and warnings for infractions included speeding, driving with a suspended license, lack of insurance and misuse of handicapped parking spaces.
For the “Southern Slow Down” campaign, police have not identified the roads where enforcement will be concentrated. However, one resident commented on the department’s Instagram post that officers were seen along Pines Boulevard.
The Pembroke Pines News reached out to the department for more information but has not received a response as of July 17.
“Don’t catch our officers in your rearview mirror — SLOW DOWN and drive safely!” the department said.
