Man arrested after fleeing police following crash in Pembroke Pines, cops say
A man was arrested Wednesday after he fled the scene of a car crash near a Dunkin' in Pembroke Pines, police say.
An officer saw a vehicle speeding away from the Lowe’s shopping plaza at University Drive and Pines Boulevard on July 15 and attempted a traffic stop, according to police.
“The vehicle proceeded to crash in the grass swale outside of the Dunkin' Donuts,” Pembroke Pines police public information officer Amanda Conwell said. “The driver ran from police before being safely taken into custody.”
Police first alerted the public around 4:10 p.m., saying multiple units had responded to the area near 9801 Pines Blvd. Officials said there was no threat to public safety.
Police charged the man with fleeing and eluding law enforcement with lights and sirens activated, resisting an officer without violence, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, court records show.
“We are still investigating as to why the driver crashed the vehicle and tried to run from police,” Conwell said.
