Pembroke Pines residents wishing to immerse themselves in a little Hollywood magic won’t need a plane ticket the next two weekends.

The Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts opens its summer season Friday, July 17, with the first of eight performances of “Hooray for Hollywood: Celebrating the Magic of the Movies.”

The production will take place at the Susan B. Katz Theatre at River of Grass Arts Park and is a musical revue featuring songs from several classic films.

Guests can expect performances from classic films such as “The Breakfast Club,” “Rocky,” and “Top Gun,” along with musical selections from “Footloose: The Musical” and “Fame.”

The company is running an opening-weekend special, with $25 tickets (cash only) at the box office, with staff picking an available seat on your behalf.

The cast consists of six members: Thalia Rodriguez, Steven Fuentes, Julianne Norman, Serenity Ukegbu, Daniel Sanchez and Elizabeth Robinson.

This weekend’s performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The show runs about two hours and is said to be “a high-energy performance that will have your dancing in your seats,” the company said.

There will also be four showings the following weekend:

  • 8 p.m. on Friday, July 24
  • 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 25
  • 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 26

Regular priced tickets are $40 for adults and $30 for seniors and students, and can be purchased through the theater company’s website.
