Man sexually assaults 14-year-old he met on Snapchat, Pembroke Pines police say
A man accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl he met on Snapchat was arrested in Pembroke Pines when a detective pretending to be her arranged a meetup, investigators said.
Nicholas Rojas, 23, is charged with sexual battery on a minor with great force not used, two counts of traveling to meet after use of a computer to lure a child, and causing a child to become delinquent, court records show.
Police in Pembroke Pines and Coral Springs are both pursuing charges.
His attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment June 26.
A 14-year-old from Pembrokes Pines reported to police in June that Rojas contacted her for the first time on Snapchat several months ago, according to prosecutors’ motion for pretrial detention. She said Rojas initially told her he was 20 but later said he was 23, and she told him she was 14, according to court documents.
In March, the two planned for the teen to sneak out of her family’s house in the middle of the night, she told investigators. Rojas reportedly took an Uber to her home in Pembroke Pines, then they took an Uber to his home in Coral Springs, according to his arrest report.
The teen told police that at Rojas’ house, he sexually assaulted her despite her protests and attempts to push him away.
In the next few months, Rojas brought the teen vapes and alcohol after she told him she could report him to police, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The teen eventually went to police, and a Pembroke Pines detective took over her account to contact Rojas, documents show. The detective, posing as the teen, reached out to Rojas about meeting at a Wawa in Pines, and the detective said it was “clear” Rojas wanted to pick up the teen to engage in sexual acts.
Police set up for the sting operation at the Wawa on Hiatus Road on June 14, and when Rojas arrived, they arrested him.
