The Pembroke Pines Annual Art Competition will accept submissions now through May 4. The City of Pembroke Pines

If you’re an artist looking for South Florida acclaim, Pembroke Pines has got the gig for you.

The city is accepting submissions for its 21st Annual Art Competition now through Monday, May 4, and offers large prizes, gallery space and a shot at being named the tri-county area’s best.

Creatives over the age of 18 in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties are eligible to apply in one of six mediums: digital art, drawing, mixed media, painting, photography and sculpture.

Up to three works can be submitted per category, but artists must stick to one medium.

Applicants must download, fill out and submit a form to the Studio 18 Art Complex — which will host the accepted works — at studio18@ppines.com.

In addition to the artist statements and submission descriptions required in the form, applicants must send in one high-resolution photograph with good lighting per artwork and pay a nonrefundable $15 fee for each piece entered.

Payments can be made with cash or a check at the gallery, or with a card online.

Some do’s and don’ts to note: All 2-D art must be within 40 inches by 40 inches and wired for hanging. Sculpture submission are exempt from size limits.

Glass is not allowed for framed works, but acryclic is permitted.

Artists whose works have been accepted by Studio 18 will notified through email by Wednesday, May 6, after a “jury of arts professionals” has reviewed all submissions.

Only these works will be exhibited from May 29 through Aug. 5.

What else is in store for winning creatives?

A $200 cash prize is awarded for the “best of” each medium, as well as a $200 award for the unofficial category of “Festival Poster Winner.”

The winning piece for the poster will be selected from all the art submissons and be featured on the city’s official event poster for the competition.

The artist will receive a free tent to participate at the event, and their artwork will be wrapped around a Pembroke Pines traffic box.

The competition’s biggest prize — $500 — will be awarded to the “Best in Show.”

Winners will be announced at Studio 18’s May 29 exhibition opening ceremony at 7 p.m.
