76-year-old driver cited after crashing into Aldi, Pembroke Pines police say
A 76-year-old driver was found at fault for careless driving after crashing into an Aldi grocery store in Pembroke Pines on Friday, according to police.
The Pembroke Pines Police Department said the woman was attempting to turn into a parking space at the Aldi located at 11330 Pines Blvd., when she lost control of her vehicle.
The red pickup truck struck a curb and several bushes before crashing through the store’s front door.
No injuries were reported, police confirmed.
Jeff DeHoyos, a Miramar resident and Supervisor of Incident Management at Westway Towing, was called to the scene on Friday, Feb. 27, as the city is contracted with the company.
DeHoyos said the accident happened around 12:45 p.m.
“Everyone was OK from the accident. Nobody was hurt, nobody inside the store, the driver was OK,” DeHoyos told the Pembroke Pines News. “[The driver] turned into the parking lot and just lost control.”
DeHoyos said several officers from the Pembroke Pines Police Department responded to the scene, as well as some from the Pembroke Pines Fire Department.
Police said the driver was found at fault for careless driving and was recommended for re-examination for their driver’s license.
The extent of the damage to the building was not immediately known.
In a written statement on March 3, Chris Hewitt, Royal Palm Beach Division Vice President for Aldi, said the store reopened the same day.
“We are thankful to confirm that no injuries occurred during the recent incident at our Pembroke Pines store,” Hewitt told the Pembroke Pines News. “The store was able to reopen the same day to continue serving our customers. We sincerely appreciate the dedication and support of our emergency responders and community.”
