A colorful community race will close this month as neon lights and glow sticks take over a park for a good cause.

The City of Pembroke Pines will host the Pines Light Up the Night 5K Run on Saturday, Feb. 28, benefiting the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools Foundation.

The neon-themed evening race begins at 6:30 p.m. at West Pines Soccer Park, located at 350 SW 196th Ave.

Participants are encouraged to sport their brightest gear to “light up the night” during the high-energy 3.1-mile course. The event is open to runners and walkers of all speeds.

Registration costs $30 through Feb. 27 and goes up to $50 on race day. Organizers are encouraging early signups, which can be done with this link.

All runners will get a light-changing LED glow foam baton and participants 21 and older will receive a free beer following the race.
