For young artists who want to get their hands a little messy, an upcoming workshop is offering a creative way to learn something new.

Children ages 8-12 are invited to take part in a Clay Creation Workshop led by artist Jose Pita Vazquez on Friday, Feb. 20, and Friday, Feb. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Pembroke Pines Art & Cultural Center.

The center is located at 901 NW 129th Ave., inside the Walter C. Young Middle School campus.

Registration for the workshop series opened Tuesday, Feb. 10, and space is limited to the first 15 students who register. The cost is $20 per student with all materials included. .

Over the course of two classes, participants will create their own hand-crafted cereal bowls.

The first session focuses on learning how to shape the bowl, while the second allows students to glaze and personalize their work.

Jose Pita Vazquez, a resident artist at Bakehouse Art Complex since 2016, is a ceramic artist who also works in sculpture.

After the instructor has fired each piece in a kiln, students and parents will be asked to return to the center to pick up their breakfast creations.
