A day of art, reading and connection comes to Pembroke Pines with ArtLit 2026
Families and art lovers in Pembroke Pines can kick off the new year with a free day of creativity and culture at Broward County Library’s eighth annual ArtLit Festival, hosted by the Southwest Regional Library.
The all-ages event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 16835 Sheridan St., and is inspired by the novel “The Seed Keeper” by Diane Wilson and the youth companion book “The First Blade of Sweetgrass” by Suzanne Greenlaw and Gabriel Frey.
The ArtLit 2026 festival will feature a day of hands-on activities, such as planting workshops, crafts, book discussions, giveaways and storytimes.
Additional programs include a writing workshop with filmmaker Nerissa Street, typewriter poetry with Patton Horton, and a community dye bath using nature-sourced colors led by artist Shawna Moulton.
The festival’s theme reflects the novel’s focus on family values, tradition and the bond between generations through the natural world.
“ArtLit 2026 is a celebration of tradition, life and personal values, so important to us all,” Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs said in a news release. “It’s a wonderful way to learn, engage and reflect together on what is precious to us.”
The festival will also serve as the official kickoff for the One Book One Broward (OBOB) program, a countywide initiative that invites residents to read a shared book from Jan. 1 through Feb. 28.
This year’s theme: Our Nature: How Our Physical Enviornment Can Lead Us to Seek Hope, Courage, and Connection.
Admission, parking and all festival activities are free, though registration is requested.
