What’s happening with the Barnes & Noble at Pembroke Gardens? Here’s what to know
The Barnes & Noble bookstore at Pembroke Gardens will close after 17 years, the store announced in an Instagram post on Dec. 26, citing the expiration of its lease.
Located at 14572 SW Fifth St., the bookstore has served the Pembroke Pines community since opening in 2008. In its Instagram post, the store encouraged customers to visit the nearby Barnes & Noble at Pembroke Crossing, 11820 Pines Blvd.
Although the Pembroke Gardens location is set to close, the Barnes & Noble company is continuing to expand nationwide.
The company plans to open about 60 new stores across the U.S. in 2026, following a period of what it described as “strong sales” at existing stores, Barnes & Noble officials told USA Today.
News of the closure has prompted extensive community response through social media where people have made an effort to keep the store open. A petition on Change.org urging Barnes & Noble not to close the Pembroke Gardens location had 402 verified signatures as of Dec. 29.
The store is holding a closing sale, offering 50% off on all books, according to signage posted at the location.
