A house fire prompted multiple residence evacuations near NW 83rd Terrace and NW 17th Court on Sunday, Nov. 23, according to the Pembroke Pines Fire Department.

According to Division Chief of Operations Jason Stepp, crews received the call at 11:41 a.m., and multiple nearby homes were briefly evacuated due to the heavy smoke firefighters encountered upon arrival.

The fire originated in the master bedroom closet, spread into the attic and vented through the roof, Stepp told the Pembroke Pines News on Nov. 24. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within minutes of their arrival.

The state marshal determined the cause of the fire to be faulty electrical wiring, Stepp said. No injuries were reported.

Crews remained on the scene performing salvage and overhaul to clear debris and extinguish remaining hot spots in the attic.

The damage to the house was “major” but contained to the single home, Stepp said.
