A house fire Wednesday, Nov. 5, resulted in the death of three dogs inside a Pembroke Pines home, city officials said.

The fire broke out at a residence on NW 23rd Place around 4:22 p.m., according to Division Chief of Operations Jason Stepp with Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue.

Stepp told the Pembroke Pines News that firefighters arrived within six minutes of the call and extinguished the blaze in less than 10 minutes.

The department’s standard structure fire response — two engines, a platform, a rescue truck and a battalion — was dispatched. After the blaze was declared a working fire, an additional engine and rescue unit were added, Stepp said.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Stepp said the resident returned to find the blaze and alerted authorities. Firefighters found three dogs inside and attempted resuscitation efforts, but all three animals died.

Investigators believe the fire was isolated to the kitchen area and likely started on the stove, though the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported.
