As October kicks off, so does the Halloween season, bringing with it pumpkin carving, spooky double-features, candy-induced sugar rushes and costume contests.

The holiday falls on Friday, Oct. 31 this year, promising a long weekend of fun for locals of all ages, but Pembroke Pines assures there’s a reason to celebrate all month long.

Save yourself a last-minute scare and plan ahead for these Halloween events across the city.

Bow Wow Ween

Let your pooch in on the Halloween fun Saturday, Oct. 4, for the 13th annual Bow Wow Ween. Held at Craig Rupp K-9 Dog Park from 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m., this event features games, pet vendors and costume contests for dogs of all sizes. Those who want to enter their furry friend for a chance to win must fill out an application in advance. Admission is free and open to the public.

Jeep Nights: Halloween Boo Bash

Off-roaders will gather at Hooters Pembroke Pines’ Jeep Night, located at 7990 Pines Blvd., for its Halloween Boo Bash on Wednesday, Oct. 8 from 5 -9 p.m. This month’s edition invites attendees to dress up and includes a trunk-or-treat event for kids, as well as several prizes and trophies up for grabs. Those who show their Jeep key receive 15% off their food and non-alcoholic beverages. Admission is free and open to the public.

Not So ScEARy Halloween Party

Putt-putt with a festive twist alongside the University of Miami’s Children’s Hearing Program on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Monster Mini Golf from noon-2 p.m. The recently-opened mini golf course features 18 holes of glow-in-the-dark fun and adds bowling and rock climbing to this event’s lineup. Admission is free with registration.

Howl-O-Ween 3K-9 Family Run

Looking to get your steps in with Fido? Participate in the Pembroke Pines YMCA’s 3K-9 walk Saturday, Oct. 25, from 8-10:30 a.m. Once you’ve done your laps, visit the event’s parade, costume contest or photo booth for more fun with your furry friend. All proceeds support the nonprofit’s Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Initiative. Admission is $25 and includes a YMCA-branded bandana for you and your dog.

Keiser University Scare Fair Campus Preview

Tour Keiser University’s Pembroke Pines campus, located at 1640 SW 145th Ave., and experience a night of thrills at Scare Fair Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Prospective students can explore the school’s degree programs while their families enjoy the event’s haunted house, trick-or-treat stations, costume contest and free giveaways. Admission is free with registration.

PembrokeKIDS Trick or Treat

Enjoy sweets and spooks Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Pembroke Gardens’ annual trick-or-treat event. From 6-8 p.m., kids can collect candy from the mall’s shops and participate in a costume contest with their families and pets. All proceeds are donated to Comic Kids, a Miami-based art nonprofit for vulnerable youth in underserved communities. Tickets are limited and cost $5.

Boo-Ville

Pembroke Pines invites its residents to a “frightfully good time” at its Boo-Ville Pumpkin Palooza on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 6-9 p.m. Families can enjoy trick-or-treating, costume contests, roaming monsters and a free goody bag for the first 1,000 kids who attend. Held at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, the event is only open to locals who can provide proof of residency in Pembroke Pines. Admission is free, but tickets are limited and must be booked in advanced starting Oct. 6.
