This week in Pembroke Pines: Workshops, runs, a late Easter egg hunt & more
Hello, April!
The City of Pembroke Pines welcomes in the first full week of the month with a slew of family-friendly events, including the classic Easter egg hunt (hey, more candy, right!), community runs and creative workshops.
Nearby cities such as Miami are also marking the start of National Poetry Month with events that may inspire the Broward residents to write a sonnet or two.
The week also includes a milestone moment, as the city’s latest fire department class graduates Thursday at the Charles F. Dodge City Center.
Here’s what’s happening around your city from Monday, April 6, through Thursday, April 9:
Raising Postive Children: Building Strong Digital Citizens
The city will host a special presentation on preparing kids for the future of technology at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Susan B. Katz Theater of the Performing Arts.
The presentation, “Raising Positive Children: Building Strong Digital Citizens in a Connected World,” will feature author and educator George Couros as the guest speaker.
Admission is free and tickets are not required.
Pines Running Co. runs
One of the city’s largest run clubs, Pines Running Co., will host runs on Monday and Wednesday.
The Monday run, held weekly as “Monday Night Lights” at Miramar Regional Park, is a tempo and interval session. The run begins at 7 p.m. Participants can register here.
Wednesday’s “Stride and Thrive” run is described as a “full wellness experience,” with a 2-mile community run followed by a social event hosted by Health POD Labs and Wellness, 10422 Taft St.
Runners are encourgaed to stick around afterward to enjoy recovery services and connect with others. Participants can register through Sweatpals.
Button & Magnets: Creative Workshop Series
As part of the Art of Gary Gore Creative Workshop Series, the city will host its second-to-last winter-spring session for children ages 8 to 12 on Wednesday.
The hands-on art and design workshop runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and costs $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents for each workshop.
The event is at the Village Community Center, 6700 SW 13th St.

Easter Hunt with Pembroke Pines Mommy Club
The Pembroke Pines Mommy Club will host a late Easter egg hunt celebration from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Children are invited to beat the heat with splash pad fun and participate in two easter egg hunts separated for kids under 3 and those 3 and over. Parents are encouraged to pack swimsuits, towels and a change of clothes.
Each participant must bring 20 nut-free, pre-filled eggs.
Admission is free and the event location will be disclosed to all who RSVP.
Second Annual Senior Olympics
The city is hosting its Second Annual Senior Olympics competition from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Members of the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center will team up and compete against 22 Pembroke Pines Charter High School students in the center’s Main Hall at 301 NW 103rd Ave.
Athletes will face off in a series of lighthearted games, including Ping Pong Ball Basketball, cornhole, Face the Cookie, basketball, Stack the Solo Cups and more.
The competition is free and open to the public.
