Your weekend in Pembroke Pines: Women’s run, Wayman open house, community theater
Spring in Pembroke Pines has brought more than just longer days.
The season is shaping up to be an invitation for residents to get moving, meet their neighbors and experience something new.
This weekend, the city features a women’s-only run, a closer look inside South Florida’s largest aviation school and a final curtain call for a performance at the Pembroke Pines Theatre of Performing Arts.
And a happy Palm Sunday to those who celebrate.
Here’s what is happening across the city from Friday, March 27, through Sunday, March 29:
‘Strong-Her’ Run
In honor of International Women’s Day, the Pines Running Co. is hosting a 2-mile women’s-only run at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday at Memorial Park, located at 10601 SW City Center Blvd.
The event is open to all paces. The Pines run club will be joined by “Fill Your Cup Run Club,” a women’s-only run club hailing from Davie.
After the 2 miles are logged, runners are encouraged to stay for a guided yoga session led by Christine Gray of The Yoga Direction, coffee and a jewelry pop-up.
Registration is free and can be done through Sweatpals or Strava.
Wayman open house
Wayman College of Aeronautics, based at North Perry Airport, is having an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The event will feature close-up views of the school’s fleet of aircrafts and simulators, as well as a chance to connect with instructors and current students.
Wayman College of Aeronautics is located at 7501 S. Airport Road.
Registration for the event is free.
‘Broadway Bound’ performances
The Pembroke Pines Theatre of Performing Arts closes its spring production of “Broadway Bound” with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Susan B. Katz Theater of the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $30 for students and seniors.
PPTOPA will stage four performances this weekend: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and the closing show on Sunday.
The box office is running two specials for ticket prices. For those who wish to purchase online, use the code “Special” to get $5 off your ticket. The other is to let the box office choose your seat for $25.
The show’s run time is about two and a half hours. Set in 1940s New York City, the comedy-drama follows brothers Eugene and Stanley Jerome as they try to break into comedy writing while coping with family drama at home.
