Get ready to dance and reminisce with a free live, outdoor performance coming to Pembroke Pines.

The music of the 1970’s has social commentary woven throughout and can be defined as nothing short of revolutionary, with psychedelic rock and soul/funk that permeated the era’s early years, to the rise of disco, punk and hip-hop.

Pembroke Pines is inviting residents to rekindle that energy for the third installment of Beats & Bites on Dec. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Charles F. Dodge quad, 601 City Center Way.

The free monthly “Throwback Thursday” concert series, celebrating the best hits of the different decades, is performed by local talent and regional bands.

Headlining December’s concert is the Valerie Tyson Band, an eight-piece ensemble that consists of a bass, drums, keyboard, guitar, saxophone and four lead vocalists. They specialize in jazz, classic rock, R&B and reggae stylings. And as the band puts on their website, “We bring the happy!”

“To pair with the music, guests can enjoy a rotating lineup of food trucks and vendors offering bites that match the vibe of the night,” according to the event description.

Food trucks will be open and serving food starting from 6 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring their own seating.

The next Beats & Bites will be held in the new year on Thursday, Jan. 15. For more information, visit the city’s website.
