Skip the Basel traffic. Here’s what to do in Pembroke Pines this weekend
Happy last-first weekend of 2025, Pembroke Pines! The Christmas countdown is officially on.
Most eyes this weekend are focused on the explosive art scene that takes over the larger part of Miami Beach for Art Basel.
And yes, this includes the flesh-colored robotic dogs that literally “poop” out artwork modeled after familiar tech titans such as Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.
For those who would rather avoid causeway traffic and overpopulated spaces, there’s plenty of fun to be had here in the city.
Also, a quick reminder for those residents lucky enough to snag SnowFest tickets, the winter celebration is taking place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Here’s what’s happening from Friday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 7, in Pembroke Pines:
Christmas at the Oasis
Through Dec. 25, The Oasis Church, at 12201 SW 14th St., transforms its campus into a sparkling winter wonderland with lights and festive displays.
This weekend, the church inaugurates its festival for the full Christmas experience from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The festival includes campfires, holiday movies and train rides.
Admission is free but guests may need to purchase tickets to engage in some of the festival’s activities.
Holiday Community Party: Chill-N Nitrogen Ice Cream Shop
On Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., Chill-N Nitrogen Ice Cream Shop at 16024 Pines Blvd., Suite 105, is hosting a free community holiday event with special character guests from the movie “Frozen.”
Families can enjoy an afternoon filled with pizza, face painting and balloon making.
There will also be a raffle to win an electric dirt bike with the purchase of any of their pints.
Cheerleading and Dance Championship
The United States Cheerleading Association is hitting center stage at the Charles F. Dodge City Center on Sunday for the 2025 Holiday Spectacular Cheerleading and Dance Championship.
Doors are scheduled to open at 9 a.m. and the competition will run until 5 p.m., followed by award ceremonies.
