Twinkling lights, night runs and community: Kick off December in Pembroke Pines

Do you feel that, Pembroke Pines?

As December arrives and the first holiday lights start to twinkle, the city welcomes the season with a warm embrace. This week brings cozy drives through festive displays and social night runs. If Snowfest tickets didn’t work out, don’t sweat it — there’s still plenty to get you into the festive spirit.

Also, a reminder that Dec. 2 is Giving Tuesday, the global, one day a year push to support local organizations.

In Pembroke Pines, groups like the Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts are looking for community support, while Fuel Bright Minds, Build Bold Futures is accepting donations for the Pembroke Pines Charter School System to fund classsroom technology, scholarships and STEM and arts programs.

Ring in the last month of the year with these events from Dec. 1-4.

Christmas Display at The Oasis Church

From Dec. 1 onward, The Oasis Church at 12201 SW 14 St., transforms its campus into a sparkling winter wonderland with lights and festive displays.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. each night, guests can cruise through a holiday light show from the warmth of their car. Lights stay on until 9:30 p.m. and admission is free. The first week is drive-thru only, and the display runs through Dec. 25.

Let’s Run Pines: 2-Mile Social Run

If you’re looking to start the week with movement, the Let’s Run Pines run club invites guests to it’s weekly Monday night 2-mile social run for all skill levels.

The group is slated to meet at 7 p.m. in the Baoshi Asian Food Hall, located at 8535 Pines Blvd. The event is expected to wrap up at 9 p.m.

Runners can enjoy free water and fruit with an after party and raffle giveaways. Registration is free.

Baoshi Movie Night: “One Piece Film: Red”

For lovers of anime and movies, Baoshi Food Hall is hosting a free watch-party for ”One Piece Film: Red” on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m.

The film has a 97% score on rotten tomatoes and runs for an hour and 55 minutes. No registration is needed.

Senior Social Meet-up

For older residents, or anyone who’d love a calm community gathering, the Senior Social Meetup Group reconvenes on the first Thursday of every month.

On Dec. 4, the group will meet from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in room 212 at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103rd Ave.

The event will include gifts and raffles. Admission is free and open to the public.
