Arts festival, aviation and cocktails: Weekend happenings in Pembroke Pines
Softer breezes have begun to sweep through South Florida, bringing with them the first hints of winter’s double-edged charm.
The air feels a bit lighter, the days cooler, and the sun sets earlier, leaving those who enjoy evening walks tinged with premature twilight.
Just as the weather starts to turn perfect, the sun fades too soon.
Luckily, Pembroke Pines has no shortage of ways to brighten up the weekend including art festivals, mixology classes and aviation adventures.
Here’s what’s going on Friday, Nov. 7, through Sunday, Nov. 9:
Friday
Veterans Assistance: The City of Pembroke Pines will host its biweekly Veterans Assistance Day at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, 301 NW 103rd Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Accredited officers will be on-site in Room 198 to help veterans with burial benefits, appeals, pension claims and more. The event is held every first and third Friday of the month.
Saturday
Pembroke Pines Festival of the Arts: This weekend’s “grand fromage” is the Pembroke Pines Festival of the Arts, a two-day event filled with music, art and local culture at the Charles F. Dodge City Center. From 1 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, attendees can browse local vendors, sample food trucks and local eateries, and enjoy live performances.
Saturday’s lineup includes AleMor at 2 p.m., Néstor Zurita at 4 p.m. and Los Wizzards at 6 p.m. The festival will also unveil the 2025 poster contest winner, Pedro the Parrot by Seke, and announce student art competition winners at 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
North Perry Airport Community Day: Just across town, North Perry Airport Community Day invites aviation fanatics to explore the world of flight from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wayman Aviation Academy, 7501 S. Airport Road. Attendees can meet pilots and mechanics, try flight simulators and learn about careers in aviation. Those ages 12 to 18 can register for a “Discovery Flight” experience for $59, though flights are limited and may have a waitlist. Admission is free with registration.
Mixology Class with Royal Jamaican Rum: For those with a taste for something stronger, Baoshi Food Hall + Bar at 8525 Pines Blvd is hosting a Mixology Class with Royal Jamaican Rum from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Experienced mixologists will guide attendees through crafting signature cocktails while sharing trade secrets along the way. Tickets start at $70.
Run-A-Boat Family Fun Day: The Run-A-Boat Family Fun Day: Emerald City event will fill the grounds of Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church, 2801 N. University Dr., hosted by the Jamaican Women of Florida from 2 to 8 p.m. The event celebrates Caribbean culture with music, games, and traditional food. Attendees are encouraged to wear black, green and gold to honor Jamaica’s colors. The celebration also doubles as a Hurricane Melissa relief drop-off site, collecting nonperishable foods, hygiene kits and flashlights for affected Caribbean communities. Tickets start at $17.
Sunday
Pembroke Pines Festival of the Arts: The festival wraps up at the City Center, featuring performances by The Flyers at 2 p.m., Gabriel Key at 4 p.m. and Shaw Davis at 6 p.m. Attendees can also enjoy hands-on workshops at The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery, open throughout the weekend.
