Pines Night Out: Safety demos, family fun, officer meet-and-greet and more
Stop, drop and roll — the City of Pembroke Pines is inviting all residents to party alongside those who protect and serve this October.
Pines Night Out will take over the Charles F. Dodge City Center on Friday, Oct. 24, from 6-9 p.m. for a meet-and-greet evening with police officers, firefighters, specialty agencies and local businesses.
The free event — which falls during National Crime Prevention Month — offers a family-friendly lineup and a chance to chat with your first responders.
On the program is food, music and health screenings as well as bounce houses, a costume contest and a newly added blacklight maze for young residents.
Displays from the city’s Community Emergency Response Team, which trains civilians on disaster preparedness and basic response techniques, animal rescue Pooches in Pines and the Pembroke Pines Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit will also be on site.
The goal, PPPD spokeswoman Amanda Conwell tells the Pembroke Pines News, is to connect first responders and community members outside of crime-related interactions.
“Most people never get the opportunity, outside of a crisis moment, to engage with officers. This is a perfect opportunity, in a very family-friendly, fun environment, to let residents meet the people that serve them and keep them safe on a weekly basis,” she said.
Also scheduled are fire truck demonstrations from the Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue, visits from specialized teams such as the dive, motorcycle and K9 units, and a closer look at the PPPD’s Terradyne, a bullet-resistant tactical vehicle.
“Pines Night Out is an event that the community always looks forward to. It’s not just something that’s fun for kids, there are things that adults will get out of it,” Conwell said. “It’s really a fun way for the community to spend their evening.”
Admission is open to the public, but pet owners are encouraged to leave their furry friends at home.
