South Florida travelers wanting to explore a city with a different southern charm will soon have a new nonstop option to northern Texas.

Beginning Nov. 19, Avelo Airlines will launch service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and McKinney National Airport, which is about 30 miles north of Dallas.

The low-cost airline headquartered in Houston announced the new flight on Tuesday, June 30.

The airline also serves three other cities from Fort Lauderdale: New Haven, Connecticut; Philadelphia; and Wilmington, Delaware.

Introductory one-way ticket prices to McKinney start at $99 and those who book in July will get their first checked bag free.

The route is scheduled to operate five days a week: Sunday, Monday and Thursday-Saturday, with travelers flying on a 184-seat Boeing 737-800, Avelo officials said.

“Avelo was built for moments like this, and we are thrilled to be the launch and anchor airline at McKinney,” Avelo founder and CEO Andrew Levy said in a news release.

“Our everyday low fares, the ease of using DTX, and our consistent industry leading on-time performance are a winning combination for travelers.”
