The test scores are in and Broward County Public Schools students improved or maintained their performance in every tested subject on Florida’s spring 2026 statewide assessment, district officials said.

The exams, administered by the Florida Department of Education, come from the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking.

FAST assessments are in English language arts and mathematics, along with science assessments for grades 5 and 8 and end-of-course exams in biology, civics, U.S. history, algebra 1 and geometry.

English language arts scores increased at every grade level tested, with each grade improving by at least 3 percentage points compared with the prior year, officials said.

The county’s students also tied or outperformed the statewide average and Florida’s four other largest school districts (Hillsborough, Miami-Dade, Orange and Palm Beach counties) in most subject areas.

“These results highlight the incredible dedication of our teachers, school leaders, staff and families, and the hard work and perseverance of our students,” Broward County Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn said in a June 29 news release.

“I am proud of the sustained academic growth and achievement we are seeing across nearly every tested subject area. It is a testament to the commitment of our District, School Board, and community to provide a strong academic foundation for all students.”

Algebra 1 end-of-course exams saw the district’s largest increase since the test’s start, with the percentage of students scoring at or above grade level rising from 48% during the 2022-23 school year to 66% in 2025-26.

FAST tests are given three times each school year, with the spring assessment serving as the final statewide evaluation.

The assessment was introduced during the 2022-23 school year, and since then, the percentage of Broward students meeting or exceeding grade-level expectations has steadily increased, officials said.
