One person was taken into custody Thursday morning following a SWAT standoff at a residential complex in Pembroke Pines, where officers were serving a burglary warrant, police said.

Zachary Mikolashek, 38, was arrested on charges of burglary with assault or battery and buglary of an occupied structure, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The June 4 incident occurred at the Camden Portofino apartment community, near 108th Avenue and NW Third Street.

The arrest follows a June 2 domestic-related incident involving Mikolashek and his brother, NBC 6 reported.

According to Pembroke Pines Police Department public information officer Amanda Conwell, Tuesday’s incident “was not directly related to the arrest.” .

“Mr. Mikolashek entered into his brother’s home without permission and was refusing to leave, and so an arrest warrant for burglary was obtained,” Conwell told the Pembroke Pines News in a June 4 email.

In an Instagram post, police said residents were told to “shelter in place as a precaution,” as there were firearms inside the home.

NBC 6 reported that authorities used loudspeakers to order Mikolashek to surrender before taking him into custody.

Police said they took Mikolashek into custody on burglary charges, then officers cleared the scene.

The Pembroke Pines crisis response and special weapons and tactics team responded to assist with the warrant, officials said.

Mikolashek’s brother is being offered services through the city’s victim advocates program to cope with the physical and psychological trauma that is often a result of crime victimization, officials said.

Pembroke Pines police said there were no injuries. Mikolashek is being held in the Broward County Main Jail.
