Kids, teens can enjoy day of freebies at this Pines event. Registration now open
If you’re a kid or teen in Pembroke Pines, the city wants to treat you to a free meal and shopping spree.
Mayor’s Kids Day returns to the southwest Broward city on Friday, June 12, for its 17th edition, bringing a mayor meet-and-greet, celebrity character sightings and complimentary swag from local businesses.
The event welcomes those 15 and under to participate, kicking off at 11:30 a.m. with a two-hour “Underwater Party” lunch alongside Mayor Angelo Castillo at the Charles F. Dodge City Center.
Visits and photo opportunities with characters — Lilo and Stitch, Moana and Plato the Publixaurus were at last year’s event — are also expected.
That’s followed by the main event: surprise prizes and discounts from participating businesses across the city.
After the lunch, kids will be free to hunt down freebies using their wristband, which grants admission to participate in Mayor’s Kids Day.
A list of businesses in on the giveaway has not been released as of May 20, according to the city, which says participants should regularly check the City of Pembroke Pines’ website for an updated list.
Participating stores are subject to change, with some deals available on a first-come, first-served basis, and others limited to certain times.
How to secure a spot in the free-for-all fun? Participants must show proof of residency and pre-register in person for a free wristband from the Recreation and Cultural Arts Department through Thursday, June 11.
