Searching for your first gig out of school? A new study shows that Pembroke Pines could be a good place to start your job search, but it may not be the only city worth considering.

The southwest Broward city landed in the top 75th percentile among U.S. cities for the best and worst places to start a career, according to a new study by WalletHub.

The report, released May 11 by the Miami-based personal finance company, compared 182 cities nationwide in two categories that WalletHub says influence job success: professional opportunities and quality of life.

How did Pembroke Pines make out? The city ranked 137th across the U.S. and was deemed the eighth best among the 11 Florida cities that made the report.

To assess the city, the categories were broken down into 25 job-market entry metrics with varying weights, graded on a 100-point scale and averaged to calculate the score.

Pines fared best — coming in at No. 116 in the 70-point category — in professional opportunities, which looked at the availablity of entry-level jobs, monthly average starting salary, annual job growth rate, workforce diversity, job satisfaction and the number of career counselors in an area, among other things.

In the 30-point quality of life category, the city ranked 150th in areas such as median annual income, average length of work week, commuter-friendliness, number of millennial newcomers, housing affordability and singles-friendliness.

Pembroke Pines’ total score was 43.54.

If you’re looking to maximize your chances of success in the Sunshine State, try landing interviews in cities such as Orlando, Tampa and Miami, which made the top five of WalletHub’s list.

Bonus points: The Magic City ranked No. 1 for professional opportunities.

Fort Lauderdale (34), Jacksonville (56), St. Petersburg (63) and Tallahassee (106) also fared well, while Hialeah (141), Cape Coral (160) and Port St. Lucie (179) ranked lower than Pembroke Pines.

And if you’re up for relocation, cross state lines into Atlanta, which topped WalletHub’s study with a score 71.33.
