A piercing studio with a first-of-its-kind medical standard is opening at a Pembroke Pines shopping plaza.

Rowan celebrates its grand opening at 415 SW 145th Terrace — The Shops at Pembroke Gardens — on Saturday, May 2, meshing the cute and clinical for those looking to make their jewelry a permanent fixture.

The New York-based piercing brand has two claims to fame: It’s backed by a medical advisory board that oversees procedures and only hires licensed nurses as piercers.

“When it was time for my daughter ... nothing felt quite right. Piercing parlors didn’t feel safe enough. Pediatricians’ offices didn’t feel special enough,” founder Louisa Schneider explains on Rowan’s website.

“And the more I looked into the ear piercing industry as a whole, the more I realized how overlooked and outdated it really was — especially for something so meaningful.”

What to expect from Rowan?

Only ear piercing services are offered, and eight piercing placements are available, performed using a needle or device.

How you are pierced is dependent on your age, piercing placement and earring preference, according to the studio’s website.

Schneider, whose background includes working on Wall Street as a hedge fund manager, started the brand in 2017. It now has 90 studios nationwide and employs over 800 workers, about half of whom are licensed nurses, CNBC reported in 2025.

All jewelry is hypoallergenic, including pre-sterilized 14-karat gold, gold-plated, surgical-grade stainless steel and titanium only, and starts at $60.

Piercing services start at $35 and do not include the jewelry.
