Pembroke Pines is one step closer to welcoming its largest Asian market.

Construction is underway at Lotte Plaza Market’s upcoming southwest Broward location — 13640 Pines Blvd. — per a March 19 Instagram post by C.E. Gleeson Constructors, the store’s contractor.

The Korean grocery chain will replace a 50,000-square-foot Macy’s Furniture Gallery sold in 2024 for $13 million, county property records show.

The Pembroke Pines store will mark the company’s first location in South Florida and fourth in the Sunshine State, with sister supermarkets located in Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville.

“Our team is hard at work stripping back the old department store layout to make way for a modern international food court, specialized fresh markets, and high-end retail space,” wrote C.E. Gleeson Constructors.

An opening date has not been released by the construction company or the supermarket’s team as of April 17.

The self-proclaimed “largest Asian supermarket chain in the DC region,” Lotte Plaza Market opened in 1989 in Maryland to serve the Washington metropolitan area’s growing Korean population.

The chain is owned by Lotte Group, a giant South Korean conglomerate with hands in retail, chemical construction, manufacturing, tourism, finance and a Seoul-based theme park dubbed Lotte World.

Customers can expect a wide variety of Asian staples such as kimchi, bao buns and salmon steak, viral imported goods including Pocky and Turtle Chips, and a food court that will bring Pan-Asian cuisine to Pembroke Pines.
