In both violent and property crimes, Pembroke Pines saw a plunge in 2025 compared to the year before, reaching a record low, a new report shows.

On Monday, April 13, the Pembroke Pines Police Department posted on Instagram that its 2025 annual crime statistics reflected a decrease in overall city crime.

Officials told the Pembroke Pines News the report was compiled on April 9.

The city’s five-year index report (2021-25) shows 2025 recorded the lowest crime totals in that span.

Compared to 2024, property crimes dropped by 31%, while violent crimes trended downward by 36%, police say.

What factors contributed to the lower numbers across the board?

PPPD Media Relations Manager and Public Information Officer Amanda Conwell told the Pembroke Pines News that the department’s focus on “proactive policing” efforts played a role, particularly through its Neighborhood Safety Team.

The NST, Conwell says, is a specialized unit of officers who “focus on proactive policing in residential and commercial plazas. They are separate from our normal road patrol officers.”

This is one example, she says, of an initiative that could have contributed to the city’s decline in crime.

“They are there to kind of relieve our normal patrol officers when it comes to conducting patrols through communities, because a lot of times our normal patrol officers are actually responding to calls,” she said.

“They can’t do as many patrols when they’re actively handling the call, so we have NST officers there to always be circulating, always be looking for suspicious persons.”

According to the department’s data, violent crimes include murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

In 2024, the number of violent crimes reached 212, compared to 136 in 2025. Aggravated assault accounted for most of the violent crimes across the five years, peaking in 2023 with 146.

However, 2025 saw the highest number of murder and non-negligent manslaughter cases in the five-year period, with five, two more than 2024.

For property crime, categorized as burglary, larceny/theft and motor vehicle theft, the total fell to a five-year low of 1,646 in 2025, a 31% decrease from 2024.

The largest share of property crime across the five years was larceny theft, which reached a high of 2,155 in 2023. That year also saw the highest overall property crime rate.

According to the report, crime rates are calculated per 100,000 residents. The report also notes the 2025 numbers are subject to change pending the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) review.
