Burglary call at Pembroke Pines plaza unfounded; suspect charged with trespassing
The Pembroke Pines Police Department said a “reported commercial burglary” at a shopping plaza near the intersection of University Drive and Pines Boulevard Thursday morning was “unfounded.”
A suspect was taken into custody and will be charged with trespassing and providing false information to a police officer, according to police.
Officers responded to the College Plaza shopping center on April 9, located on the northeast corner of the intersection, and were searching the area as of about 9:55 a.m., according to a social media post by police.
Access to the plaza and nearby roadways was temporarily restricted while police conducted their investigation, officials said. The shopping plaza at 7841-7899 Pines Blvd. contains the New Life Assembly of God, Hook & Reel Cajun Seafood & Bar, a gun store, a salon and other businesses.
“Our investigation is preliminary at this time,” the department’s Senior Media Relations Manager Amanda Conwell told the Pembroke Pines News on April 9. “Any updates will be posted to our socials until the scene is cleared and we have additional information to provide.”
At around noon, the department said officers had cleared the scene and arrested a suspect.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
