Need ideas for when school is out? Pembroke Pines launches summer camp lineup
We’re two months from the end of spring, but it’s never too early to plan for summer childcare.
Pembroke Pines has announced its summer day camp lineup and opened registration for those looking to get a headstart on where their kids will spend the break.
Four programs are available this year: art and drama camp, soccer camp, tennis, pickleball and golf camp, and a “Special Population” camp for children and adults with disabilities.
Pines locals who show proof of residency can sign up for their child’s favorite now. Registration for non-residents opens April 20 at 9 a.m.
Here’s what to know about the city’s summer camp programs:
Art and drama camp
This full-day program is tailored to young creatives ages 6 to 12 and will offer activities in both mediums as well as swimming, field trips, outdoor play, team games and more.
Campers will spend their summer at the Pembroke Pines Art & Cultural Center — 901 NW 129th Ave — from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and can choose from several sessions to attend.
Each session costs $400, plus a $25 registration fee.

Soccer camp
For a summer of fun and sweat, boys and girls ages 6 to 16 will want to check out this soccer program running from June 8 through July 31, with the exception of Friday, June 19.
The city describes it as a “high-energy camp designed to build skills, teamwork, and confidence on the field,” and it will be held at the West Pines Soccer Park, located at 350 SW 196th Ave.
There are half-day and full-day offerings, with the former going from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and costing $175 per week, and the latter from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $275 per week.
A $25 registration fee applies, and nonresidents will have to pay an additional $15 fee per week.
High schoolers looking to volunteer must be at least 15 years old and in ninth grade to log hours.

Those ages 6 to 14 are eligible to attend the camp at the Pembroke Lakes Golf and Racquet Club — 10500 Taft St. — from either 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The half-day option is $175 per week and the full-day option is $275.
Kids will alternate weekly instruction and be taught by USTA certified tennis instructors and PGA golf professionals.

Activities include recreational games, sports, arts and crafts, educational classes, swimming and more.
The program is full-day, running from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Pembroke Pines Charter Middle Central Campus, located at 12350 Sheridan St.
All attendees must be “independent in toileting and be able to administer their own medications with supervision,” per the city.
Camp prices are $160 for a two-week session, with costs not exceeding $80 per week. A $20 registration fee also applies.
Financial assistance — in the form of a sliding fee scale with reduced weekly payments — is available for those who complete the requested paperwork and are approved.
