BSO detention deputy accused of sexually assaulting woman, choking ex at party
A Broward Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was arrested Tuesday on sexual battery and false imprisonment charges and has since been terminated, according to officials.
Edwin Horace, 25, of Hollywood, allegedly sexually assaulted one woman and was physically aggressive with another at a house party in Deerfield Beach, the arrest reports show.
When questioned by detectives, Horace stated the sexual encounter was consensual.
“On and off duty, I expect all employees to conduct themselves lawfully and with decency,” Sheriff Gregory Tony said in a news release. “I find the allegations in this case deeply disturbing and concerning.”
According to investigators, one woman told officials Horace sexually assaulted her during a party at an Airbnb in the early morning hours of March 16.
The arrest report states the victim said she became heavily intoxicated during the party and went to lie down in a bedroom, where Horace followed her.
The woman told investigators she had limited memory of what happened but described Horace performing sex acts with her at least once, then she felt unwell and threw up. She said the encounter was nonconsensual, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Horace told investigators he engaged in sex acts with the woman multiple times during the night consensually, mentioning “she didn’t communicate with him at all during either encounter,” the report reads.
A witness said Horace bragged about getting “right” afterward and pulled out an open condom wrapper, according to investigators.
Horace was initially charged with two counts of sexual battery and one count of false imprisonment.
As the investigation continued, detectives said they identified a second victim who was also at the party.
The woman told investigators she and Horace had recently stopped dating and that he became aggressive during the party.
According to the affidavit, Horace allegedly pushed her into walls, pulled her hair, and on multiple occasions, placed his hands around her throat to choke her after he saw her speaking to another man.
Investigators said he also blocked her movements and prevented her from leaving the home’s garage.
The additional charges include another count of false imprisonment, one count of domestic violence by strangulation and two counts of battery.
Horace was hired to the Department of Detention and Community Programs on June 30, 2025, and had been with the BSO for less than one year. As of Friday afternoon, Horace is being held on a total bond of $130,000 in BSO’s main jail.
Detectives say the investigation remains ongoing.
