A driver died Sunday following a crash on Pines Boulevard, according to Pembroke Pines police.

The March 8 crash happened in the westbound lanes in the 14500 block of Pines Boulevard, just west of NW 145th Avenue.

The Pembroke Pines Police Department said that a vehicle traveling at a high speed struck the rear passenger side of another car, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the center median and two royal palm trees.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and no other injuries were reported, officials say.

“As for the cause of the crash, it is believed that excessive speed is a factor,” PPPD told the Pembroke Pines News on March 9. “But that determination is subject to the final outcome of the Traffic Unit’s investigation.”

The PPPD is the primary agency investigting the crash. The Florida Highway Patrol and the state’s Severe Incident Response Vehicle team assisted with on-site traffic control.
