Smoky roads for south Pines caused by Miami Gardens warehouse fire, police say
A Miami Gardens warehouse fire is causing hazy conditions for Pembroke Pines commuters, according to police.
An active blaze on Miramar Parkway and Palm Avenue created a “large plume of smoke” visible in the city’s southern areas around 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, the agency announced on Instagram.
“No structure in Pembroke Pines is affected,” police wrote.
According to the Miramar Fire Rescue Department, the smoke originated even further south “in a (Miami Gardens) warehouse fire off Palm Avenue, south of 215th Avenue,” the agency told the Pembroke Pines News on March 5.
“A large column of smoke is visible throughout the area, but nothing in Miramar is currently being threatened,” MFRD spokesperson Tara Smith said.
The fire department dispatched four units to assist Miami-Dade Fire Rescue with taming the blaze, Smith added.
Miami Gardens warehouse fire
Miami-Dade firefighters responded to flames at a Global Warehouse Solutions at 20600 NW 47th Ave. after 11 a.m., the Miami Herald reported on March 5.
They encountered “heavy smoke and fire” at the six-story building, quickly upgrading the incident to a four-alarm fire and requesting help from several South Florida fire departments, the outlet reported.
Though Pembroke Pines firefighters were not on scene, the agency says it’s “monitoring smoke conditions throughout the city.”
No issues other than visible smoke have been reported, PPFD spokesperson Jason Stepp told the Pembroke Pines News on March 5.
“If the wind shifts and smoke begins to move into your area, please remain indoors and limit exposure to the smoke,” PPFD said in a March 5 Instagram post. “Individuals with respiratory conditions should take extra precautions to prevent breathing in the smoke.”
