Pines studio opens applications for affordable spaces for artists. What to know
Looking to share a studio space with South Florida artists, be part of a creative community and make some new work?
Look no further.
The City of Pembroke Pines’ beacon for creatives, the Studio 18 Art Complex, is now accepting applications for its affordable studio spaces for emerging and mid-career artists.
Artists would have access to a private studio space that is approximately 102 square feet and rents for $250 per month under a lease agreement. Those who secure a space will have 24/7 access to the studio.
Studio tenants also receive access to shared classrooms and community areas, inclusion in the annual Resident Artist Exhibition and eligibility to participate in city-sponsored events.
On-site kilns for those literate in the ceramic arts are also available, as well as opportunities to lead or attend professional development lectures, workshops and cultural events.
To be eligible, practicing artists must be 18 years or older to apply, reside full-time within South-Florida’s tri-county area (Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties), demonstrate conceptual and technical strength in their work and be committed to maintaining an active artistic practice.
To apply for the program, interested artists have to complete two steps.
First, applicants must pay the $30 non-refundable application fee, payable online or in person at the studio by cash or check.
Second, applicants must complete the online application form and upload all required materials in a single PDF. These include:
- An artist statement (maximum 300 words)
- An artist biography (maximum 300 words)
- A current resume
- Eight to 10 images of their recent work
- A copy of a valid Florida driver’s license or government-issued ID
- Proof of application fee payment
Applications are reviewed by a jury panel composed of arts professionals, according to the city’s website.
Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule an in-person interview at the studio.
