Thick clouds are rolling in on parts of southwest Broward County on Thursday, possibly affecting visibility for drivers, according to the National Weather Service.

The federal agency issued a morning dense fog advisory for all of inland South Florida around 6 a.m. on Feb. 12, warning commuters of “medium chances (40-50%) of reduced visibilities across the area,” via a post on social media platform X.

Hazy conditions are partly the result of the Buggy Fire — a days-long brushfire in northwest Broward County that’s burnt thousands of acres — that has covered much of Alligator Alley in thick smoke since it sparked Feb. 7.

Now, shifting winds could push residual fog toward U.S. 27, western Pembroke Pines, Miramar and Hollywood, and possibly as far south as Aventura, WPLG Local10 reported on Feb. 12.

Though the area’s low-level moisture and elevated dew point further aggravate the smoky conditions, added the news station’s meterologist Julie Durda, the skies should clear later in the day as temperatures rise.
