Students at Pembroke Pines Charter High School held a walkout Friday afternoon to protest federal immigration enforcement measures happening nationwide.

In a video taken by NBC 6, students appear on one of the school’s fields while holding signs that read, “Fight ignorance, not immigrants,” and “Immigrants built this country,” in protest of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.

WSVN also captured an aerial view of the walkout.

In an Instagram post, the Pembroke Pines Police Department confirmed officers were present on the Academic Village Campus during the walkout.

“We are working to ensure that any participating students remain safe, peaceful and orderly,” police wrote in the Feb. 6 post. They warned that any students who left school grounds could face discipline.

It is not immediately clear how many students participated, or who organized the walkout. School officials have not publicly commented on the protest.
