A Pembroke Pines woman was arrested after fleeing a Miramar home invasion robbery in which a resident was pistol-whipped and his French bulldog was taken, Miramar police said.

Two other suspects remain at large, police said. The French bulldog was later found wandering the neighborhood. It remains unclear whether the suspects abandoned the animal as they fled.

According to a redacted police report, the incident unfolded shortly before 4 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, when Miramar police officers responding to an unrelated call near the 3000 block of SW 128th Terrace in Monarch Lake heard screaming and gunshots from an address inside the Melrose Point complex near Miramar Parkway.

As officers arrived, they spotted a woman running west from the crime scene, dressed in black and carrying a backpack. Police said she ignored commands to stop and was detained after a brief foot chase.

The suspect was identified as Juliana Serna, 21, of Pembroke Pines. She was charged with home invasion robbery with a firearm and possession of cocaine, police said. It’s unclear if she took the dog from the home. A mention of the French bulldog in the report appeared to be blacked out.

Investigators said the victim, whose name was not released, told police he was in his living room when exterior lights suddenly turned on. He armed himself with his Glock and stepped outside to investigate when he was ambushed by three masked suspects, each armed with a rifle, police said.

The victim said the suspects forced him back inside his home, pistol-whipped him with their weapons and demanded money and valuables.

The victim later managed to escape to a neighbor’s home and call police.

Police said the victim suffered cuts to his temple, lip and nose, along with a contusion to the back of his head. He was treated at the scene. It’s still unclear who fired the shots, the suspects or the victim.

After Serna’s arrest, a search of her backpack allegedly revealed about 1.4 grams of cocaine that field-tested positive, according to the report. Police said she was also carrying a black beanie and was on the phone with the other suspects at the time of her arrest, the report said.

Serna declined to cooperate with investigators and was taken to the Broward Sheriff’s Office Main Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
