A flight training school based at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines has received Federal Aviation Administration approval to operate as a Part 141 flight school, allowing the academy to offer FAA-certified private, instrument and commercial pilot training programs.

The academy, Sun City Aviation Academy, will now operate under FAA-approved training syllabi, stage checks and continuous oversight with this designation.

The change is meant to standardize instruction and create more structured and rigorous training plans for students pursuing pilot certification. Most flight schools in the U.S. operate under FAA Part 61, which does not require FAA approval of school curriculum.

“Achieving our Part 141 certification is a reflection of the dedication our entire team brings to aviation education every day,” Joe Cannizzaro, the academy’s Director of Operations, said in a news release.

“This milestone enhances our ability to provide top-tier pilot training programs that meet the highest FAA standards while maintaining the supportive, student-focused culture that defines our academy.”

The academy was founded in December 2022 by Luke Poulos and serves students from across South Florida.
